My Saint James
way Part 4
IN SPAIN
The high plateau of the
Meseta on the Camino Frances
After crossing the Spanish Basque Country on foot following the variant ofbasque path from the inside, it was important for me to join thefrench path and the city ofSanto Domingo de la CalzadaThenBurgosto cross the famous but very dreadedMeseta.
It's a vast agricultural plateau as far as the eye can see where the heat can be so crushing in summer that many of us try to avoid it by taking the bus.
It is said that the first part of the road to Santiago de Compostela, from home to the city of Burgos in Spain, is the path of the body.
Crossing the Meseta (from Burgos to the city of Astorga) is the path of the soul and then that of the Spirit, to Santiago.
